Solving Global Warming

The Tipping point

The time to put global warming solutions into place is now.
We can't wait any longer. Scientists say we need to turn the corner on global warming within 10 years to prevent very dangerous impacts from becoming inevitable. Each year that passes without tackling global warming head-on makes the problem more difficult and expensive to solve.
But at the same time, global warming has finally gotten our attention -- Americans are increasingly aware that a warming climate is a real threat to our way of life, and that we have a choice about how bad it will get.
The choice lies here: $16 trillion dollars will be invested in energy development over the next two decades. Will it be poured into polluting, obsolescent technologies that will bring on the worst of global warming? Or will these investments be shifted into to advanced, low-polluting technologies that will create the new energy economy that's needed to shut down global warming?
It's up to all of us to increase the heat on our elected officials: we need the right policies -- and we need them now -- to ensure that the technologies described here are deployed on the scale and timeframe that is needed to achieve deep reductions in global warming pollution by mid-century.
1. Boost Energy Efficiency
2. Better Cars and Smart Growth
3. Biofuels and Renewable Energy
4. Return Carbon to the Ground
A critical choice remains. Power plants have a long lifespan -- build the new coal plants with dirty, 19th-century technologies and we lock ourselves into high levels of global warming pollution for decades. We can instead choose a 21st-century alternative: Using existing technologies -- each in commercial operation today -- we can convert coal into a clean-burning gas and capture and dispose of the carbon dioxide deep underground, dramatically reducing air pollution from this dirtiest of fuels. If the United States doesn't invest in this technology, neither will China, India and other countries with large coal supplies.

Summer time na!

Summer vacation (also called summer holidays or summer break) is a vacation in the summertime between school years in which students are off for 3 months, depending on the country and district.

Students
In most developed countries, students participate in programs such as organized sports, summer camps, and attend summer schools. They may also hang out with friends. High school students sometimes visit college and university campuses. It is also typical for teenagers to get a job during the summer vacation in order to raise some money to spend at their leisure. Many parents take time off work, in order to go on a family vacation during the summer.

Criticisms and support
The concept of summer vacation has been criticized because students supposedly forget large amounts of information learned in the past year. Alternatives to summer vacation, such as year-round school or Winter Vacation are used by some schools.
Those supporting summer vacation[attribution needed], on the other hand, note that children should be allowed to enjoy their childhood and should not be expected to work hard the whole year around and that children need the time to relax and have fun before adulthood. Most children[attribution needed] see Summer Vacation as a blessing and the best time of their lives.

In loreto, theres no place like home. A home away from home. Loreto, where everyday is vacation!

Arroyo to visit Dinagat Islands Wednesday

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is scheduled to visit this newly-proclaimed island province in the Caraga Region Wednesday to inaugurate a bridge that local officials said would help hasten the delivery of public services and spur economic development on the island. It will be the second visit of Mrs Arroyo to this island, one of the poorest provinces in the region. When the President came to Dinagat Island in 2005, she distributed certificates of land ownership awards to residents. On Wednesday, the President is scheduled to unveil the marker of a newly-completed bridge. Dinagat Island Gov. Geraldine Ecleo-Villaroman, lone district Rep. Glenda Ecleo, and San Jose Mayor Benglen Ecleo will assist the President in the unveiling and ribbon-cutting ceremony.Governor Villaroman said the President's visit underscores her sincerity in helping the province and in trying to uplift the lives of the residents. In October 2007, Dinagat Island was proclaimed a new province after the islanders voted “yes" in the plebiscite on the island’s conversion into a province. With the proclamation of Dinagat Island, the Caraga region is now composed of five provinces. The four other provinces are Surigao Del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur.

READER: Stolen laptop! How do i protect my identity?

Acting quickly is key when it comes to preventing identity theft. You're right to have taken the first step already, which is to change every password you can think of. If you have a copy of your bookmarks file (it's a good idea to make a backup), go through and systematically change every login password on the list. It's not just banks and email accounts that will need updates, but also shopping sites (like eBay and Amazon) and social networking sites, too. Remember that a crook won't need your actual password to get into any of these places if you've used "remember me" on the site or have set browser or toolbar auto-fill features to automatically enter passwords for you. One click could be all it takes to order thousands of dollars worth of merchandise on your behalf. It's also a good idea to go through your old credit card statements to make sure you've gotten every website you've done business with in the last six to 12 months.
Your next step should be to cancel and replace your credit cards-at least any you've ever used online. Even if you think you've changed all your passwords, chances are that you've missed one. Getting a new credit card takes minutes and provides pretty much foolproof protection.
After you line up your new cards, add a fraud alert message to your credit report. It can help to protect you if someone tries to open a new account under your name. A fraud alert still lets you open new accounts, but it requires that creditors take extra steps to verify that you are who you say you are. An initial security alert stays on your account for 90 days. You can file an extended alert (for seven years) later if you are victimized. Phone numbers for each credit agency are at the bottom of this post. Note that you may need a current copy of your credit report in order to file the alert.
Now that things have settled down, file a police report and get a copy of it-this is critical if you're filing an insurance claim. Since your laptop was stolen during a break-in, your local police department is the place to call. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) handles many computer crimes but probably won't get involved unless you're actually a victim of identity theft. (If you are, visit this site.) Hopefully, if you've followed these instructions, that won't be the case!
Finally, keep an eye on Craigslist and eBay for your laptop. You'd be shocked by how many stolen laptops are unloaded on these sites, often very quickly. If you see a listing that matches your machine (especially if you can verify that it really is yours), alert the authorities and see if they can help you recover it. Good luck.
